I am proud of what I am. I believe in what I do.
This time well start with our daily affirmation, by repeating Chekovs words just as he spoke them. Go ahead: Say them to yourself. Againaloud. And loud.
Now once more
and mean it this time!
Of course, some of us cant seem to mean it, no matter how loud we shout. After all, what if we arent particularly proud of what we are? What if our lives are full of activities we dont believe inat least not passionately? Most of us are still searching; were far from perfect; were still on that long, laborious journey to becoming the person wed like to be. Surely were not being asked to lie to ourselves, to pretend to be something were not.
Actually, theres no need to pretend. To realize youre on that journey of becoming is a proud tradition in itself. To recognize that youre imperfect, that youre still searching, is to believe in the Self within you which is perfect, which is the culmination of your search.
Besides, we arent being asked to be proud of the outward roles we may play in this lifewhether teacher or Starfleet crewman or migrant spacedock worker. Our deepest pride comes from what we already are, what each of us always will be: A child of The Universe. To repeat Checkovs words is to be transformed by that.
So once again, say it. Aloud. Loud. And mean it.
I am proud of what I am. I believe in what I do.
